Project Timeline

Getting started

Each entry in the Timelines list on the left is a separate project schedule. Click + New timeline to start one, give it a name and a start date, then add tasks below.

Signing in

Sign in with an email/password account to access your timelines — the same account works from any device or browser, since everything syncs to your account rather than staying on one machine. Use Sign out at the bottom of the sidebar to switch accounts.

Scheduling logic

• Everything runs on a fixed 5-day workweek — Saturday and Sunday are always skipped.
• Each task has a duration in workdays and can optionally start after another task finishes. Leave "Starts after" empty and the task starts at the timeline's start date, so several tasks can run in parallel.
• The Lag field fine-tunes exactly when a task kicks off relative to its predecessor, in workdays: a positive number makes it Linger — waiting that many extra workdays before starting — while a negative number lets it run Ahead, starting that many workdays before its predecessor is even finished (useful for tasks that should overlap). Leave it at 0 for the default behavior.
• Moving the start date reflows every task automatically — nothing needs re-entering.
• Use the ✎ button on a task row for a quick edit form, or type directly into the Name / Days / Starts after / Lag cells in the grid.

Milestones

Open 🏁 Milestones above the chart to manage key dates for the timeline — launches, sign-offs, deadlines, anything that's a single date rather than a task with a length. Give it a name and a date, then Add Milestone; use the ✎ button on an existing one to edit it, or ✕ to delete it. Milestones aren't tasks — they have no duration, predecessor, or lag — and they appear as their own diamond-marked rows below the task list on the chart, with the name shown directly next to the diamond (no need to hover), greyed out once their date has passed. Each milestone also draws a gold dashed vertical line down the full height of the chart at its date, so it's easy to see how it lines up against every task — the line greys out too once the date has passed. You can also edit or delete a milestone directly from its row on the chart.

Vacations & non-working periods

Open 🌴 Vacations in the sidebar to manage vacation and non-working periods for the current timeline. Add a from/to date range with a label — those days are treated like weekends, so any task duration that spans them just pushes further out, and the range is shaded amber on the chart. Use the ✎ button on a period to edit or delete it, or the ✕ button to delete it directly.

Reading the chart

Weekends are shaded grey, vacation periods are shaded amber with a diagonal stripe and a bold date header for stronger contrast, and a thin accent line marks today. Bars run continuously from a task's start to its end date, even across non-working days shown underneath. A 📝 on a bar means that task has notes attached. Milestones appear as gold diamonds with their name labeled right on the chart, plus a matching dashed vertical line through the whole chart — both greyed out once past. A task with a negative Lag (Ahead) will show its bar overlapping the tail end of its predecessor's bar, since it starts before that task finishes.

Zoom levels

Use the Week / Month / Quarter switch above the chart to control how much time fits on screen. Week shows every date and weekday letter for close-up planning. Month compresses the day columns and only labels Mondays, so you can see further ahead. Quarter compresses further still and labels only the ISO week number ("W##") on Mondays — best for a long-range, big-picture view. The choice is remembered per timeline.

Sorting tasks

Click the Start column header to sort the task list by start date. Clicking cycles through three states: ⇅ original/manual order, ▲ earliest start first, and ▼ latest start first. This only changes the row order shown — task data, dependencies, and lag are untouched — and the choice is remembered per timeline.

Focus mode

Click ⛶ Focus mode above the chart to hide the sidebar, top bar, and "+ Add task" row and see only the Gantt chart — handy for presenting or screen-sharing. Click the same button (now ✕ Exit focus) or press Esc to bring everything back.

Task details & notes

Hover over a task's bar on the chart to pop up a card with its dates, duration, dependency, and lag (shown as "lingers Nd" or "Nd ahead" when set), plus a Notes field. Move your mouse into the card to type — it saves as you go, no separate save button. Move the mouse away and the card closes after a moment.

Import, export & archive

• Export backup saves the current timeline as JSON — useful for an offline copy, or moving a timeline to someone else's account.
• Import (sidebar) reads a backup file back in as a new timeline.
• Archive (⊘ on a timeline, or the sidebar Archive button) hides a timeline without deleting it; restore or permanently delete it from the Archive Manager.
• Export for Project Pro in the sidebar produces a Project Pro-style backup JSON (_memorix_backup, project, users, tasks:[{id, title, desc, start, due, dependsOn, ...}], milestones:[{name, date, project}]), meant to be brought into Project Pro via its own Import/Restore backup option.
• CSV (top bar) exports the computed task schedule — including each task's dependency and Lag — plus a separate Milestones section, for pasting into a spreadsheet.
• Word report (top bar) downloads a formatted .doc file — summary, a milestones table, vacation table, full task schedule with dependency, lag, and notes, and a weekly visual timeline — ready to send or print.

Where your data lives

Timelines save automatically to your MemorixApps account and sync across any device you sign in on. Sign in from another computer and everything's there. Use Export backup for an offline copy any time.
